Introduction of School Health Education

The responsibility of school health education is to provide the complete positive experience and the knowledge structure to the student, including the establishment of health education curriculum, the creation of school health environment and carrying out the appropriate school health education plan through principal, teacher, guardian and the broad cooperation which leads in the community.

The significance of school health education:

Health is one of the main factors which affect young students’ learning capability. So the government has the responsibility to provide the best study conditions. This goal can be achieved by school health education. The school health education program can systematically organize all the factors that promote young people’s health.

The significance of school health education is: Young students are in the life preparation time, health education work, may help them to accept systematic health education since childhood. It will be very helpful for young people to establish a healthy life style, strengthen the self-health care consciousness and ability, prevent common disease, frequently-occurring disease, and even adult sickness. School health education builds the good foundation for their life and the effect is lifelong.

The implementation scope of school health education:

School health education is not only limited to the health education curriculum but also through many kinds of health education in young people’s daily study and the life such as food security, nutrition, smoking control, personal hygiene and so on.

The teaching of school health education:

Health education should be a part of the entire school education system.

1) The health education curriculum: young students may start their health habit since the baby time. But they usually obtain the systematic medicine and health knowledge in school.  So the school health education curriculum should be the main way for students to obtain this kind of knowledge.

There is huge difference in receptivity and thinking mode among the young students of different ages. So the goal, content, teaching style and materials of health education curriculum should be accordant of the characteristics of different age sections. Because our work is to help student to be active learning not non-passive learning.

Healthy behavior instruction:

The goal of healthy behavior instruction is to help the students to have the basic healthcare knowledge and to command the basic skills of self-healthcare. Health behavior instruction helps students to develop a faith of health and medicine, correct judge and the appraisal ability and healthy behavior. Good behavior may affect not only the individual but also the family and the society.

There are two ways of healthy behavior instruction: Collective activity and individual consultation.  Collective activity aims at the existing behavior question among students. Individual consultation helps each individual student who has special health behavior or medical care questions.

The school health service:

School health service is directly related to students’ health activities. It is also the essential part of the entire school health plan.  The school health service mainly includes: medical examination, dental examination, immunity vaccination, infectious disease control, common disease prevention and the psychological consultation as well. The school should also provide the necessary services to the disabled students.

The school health environment:

School health environment stimulates and promotes the student to participate in the beneficial health activities, raises their health consciousness of the external environment, including interpersonal and material environment.

The interpersonal environment mainly includes the school interpersonal relationship between the teachers and students, schoolmate and the other personnel.

The material environment is related to the school constructions, the ground size, the drainage, the garbage disposal system and so on.

How to provide a harmonious and healthy environment to all the students should be considered by all the school health educators.

Character Education: Elementary Vs. High School

Character Education: Elementary Vs. High School

Character Education: Whose Job Is It? While elementary and middle school teachers often work with students on critical but non-academic issues of Character and Values education, such as getting along, behaving appropriately, being respectful, honesty, cooperating, and so forth, high school teachers have a tendency not to work on these issues.

According to Dr. Andrew Milson in the Journal of Research in Character Education (Vol. 1, Number 2,2003), many elementary school teachers feel that values and character based teaching should be combined along with subject-oriented teaching and learning. High school teachers on the other hand, tend not to have a strong sense of self-efficacy in relation to teaching character education. They often feel that they don’t know how to “do” character education and if they did try it, they feel they probably would not have a real impact on their students.

Milson (2003) cites studies which indicate that high school teachers who have only had character education pedagogy during their pre-service training, or who only have university-delivered character education training, feel less confident about being able to teach character development. In contrast, teachers who have attended conferences or had staff development sessions on character education express a greater sense of confidence about being able to teach these critical skills to their students.

It makes sense, then, that schools and districts attempt to provide sessions on character education in the form of staff development, in particular focusing on strategies and programs that address issues that teachers are currently experiencing in their classrooms, rather than theory or abstract ideas.

Teachers can also benefit from learning how to incorporate elements of character education through their regular curriculum. Character education can contribute to a psychologically healthy classroom environment as well as increased achievement among students. It can also set the stage for mutual respect in the classroom. This respect can reduce the amount of time usually spent on disciplinary issues, and focus the class time back on learning the curriculum.

When teachers get practical information on how to incorporate character education into what they already do, they can become more confident about following through and reaping the benefits of character education.

Hal Urban, a successful teacher in a multiethnic public school for 35 years shares the importance of character education at home and in the classroom. He begins his presentation by quoting Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”

Urban states, “The best news of all is that we now have solid research to prove that schools with an effective character education program promote higher academic standards. Yes, this even means higher scores on standardized tests. The reason is simple: an environment of mutual respect results in a better place for teachers to teach and a better place for students to learn.”

Utilizing an integrated character education program that emphasizes modeling and incorporating character education throughout the day is the best way to teach the students the value of character. Just as important is a support system for teachers that included staff development training and sessions that focus on specific implementation strategies, demonstrating how character traits can be integrated into the curriculum.

Money for School and College for Free

It’s graduation day and you feel a sense of relief knowing you will never have to take another final again. You’re ready to fully experience life, independence and travel the world. Unfortunately for many, the average college graduates are leaving school buried in debt. There are ways you can avoid the student debt that plagues so many recent graduates.

Earning a college degree will help you command a higher salary; however it may take some time to benefit from the higher salary while you’re trying to pay of your student loan debt. There are several ways you can earn a college degree while avoiding the student debt that plagues so many graduates.

College grants offer students that qualify money for college that does not need to be paid back. College grants are need based money, meaning they are awarded based on financial need.

The federal government is supplies the majority of the grant money for college students. You’ll find the list below will give you the most popular need based grants available to students.

1) Pell Grant

2) Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG)

3) SMART Grants

4) Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP)

5) Academic Competitiveness Grants

In addition to federal student grants there are also a wide variety of state grants available as well. Be sure to visit your college’s financial aid office to see what type of grant money is available to students in your state. While you’re there be sure to meet with your financial aid counselor and fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The FAFSA application will determine if you qualify for need based college grant money. Be sure to fill out this form completely and note any recent change to your financial situation. If your past doesn’t reflect your current financial situation let them know. There may be a recent change that affects your finances like divorce, unemployment, or major medical issues, that may make you eligible for need based grant money.

Scholarships and grants differ in that scholarship money is not so much need-based as it is merit-based, meaning they are awarded based on your personal accomplishments or background.

Scholarship money is available for almost anyone that seeks money for college. Whether you have good grades or bad, whether you’re an athlete or bookworm, president of the ethics club or social wallflower – there are scholarships available for you. It doesn’t matter where you are in life now either. There are scholarships available for people that are getting ready to graduate high school, in college now, or an adult looking to go back to school.

Merit-based scholarships are scholarships are based on your personal qualities and achievements. Being athletic, artistic, academic, involved with your community, or have hobbies – there are a wide variety of scholarship money available for you.

Let’s examine your scholarship potential by examining different types of students. Of course, if you were class president, were head cheerleader, have a 4.3 GPA, and actively participate in non-profit organizations – there will be a lot of scholarship money available for you. If you’re a student who scored decent on tests, have a 2.7 to 3.3 GPA, and participate in a sport, there are going to be a fair amount of scholarship money for you as well.

Now, if you’re coming out of high school with a 2.2 GPA and are on MySpace all day, scholarships will be harder to find, but they’re out there. You can increase the chances of getting a scholarship by taking some simple steps before you begin the scholarship application process. Volunteer for a non-profit organization; get involved in extra-curricular activities and you may get your share of free scholarship money for college.

Scholarships are awarded for a wide variety of reasons. There are location specific scholarships, national scholarships and ones that are awarded by the college that you are attending. College specific scholarships may include academic, athletic and/or departmental awards. There are many other organizations that give students scholarship money for college. These include private corporations, unions, religious organizations, non-profits organizations, chambers of commerce and a wide variety of other organizations.

The most financially beneficial options to receive money for school come from college scholarships and college grants. Both offer you ways to receive free money for school that does not need to be paid back. However if you need additional money to pay for school there are other options.

Student loans offer you another resource to pay for school. You have two loan options.

1) Subsidized loans. These loans provide money to students based on need. Subsidized loans give students a break on the interest rate and payment terms. For example, the interest may not begin until after you graduate. If you’re going to get a loan for school, a subsidized loan is your best bet. Federal Perkins Loans and Federal Stafford Loans are two of the subsidized loans that may help you to finance your college education.

2) Unsubsidized loans. If you don’t have luck qualifying for subsidized loans or not enough money to cover your financial need, check into unsubsidized loans. With these loans you are paying the full interest amount, typically right after you graduate. Unsubsidized loans should be your last resort when trying to finance your schooling.

There are also alternative programs that can help you pay for college. Here are a few examples below.

1) Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program, in which you are able to go to school now with the promise of serving in the military later.

2) The Peace Corps and Americorps also allow college students to go to school now and work for their organizations later.

3) Work-study programs offered by some colleges allow you to work part-time to help pay for school.

4) HOPE scholarship tax credit that allows you to pay a reduced amount of taxes.

5) Lifetime Learning tax credit is an excellent opportunity for people to pay discounted taxes.

If you feel you cannot afford college, or are already in school and see the debt starting to pile up – winning scholarship or grant money may help you out. You’ll feel great knowing your graduating and don’t have student debt tying you down. You’ll have everything you need to live the life you pictured.

What Should High School Athletes Look for When Choosing Their College

As a former college sports coach i was often amazed at how little research some student-athletes did when it came to selecting their school. College can be some of the best years of your life and if you get it wrong they can also provide you with some bad experiences.

I know that most athletes are controlled by the “money factor” when it comes to choosing schools but you should still understand the various types of schools on offer and which one is best for you.

If you are thinking about playing a sport in college then you will need to complete some thorough research into the various types of colleges available to you. Below you will find some of your options.

The normal term for obtaining a bachelor’s degree at a U.S. college or university is four years in length. Some students can finish in less than four years and some may take longer. Some students want to fast track their degrees by taking summer school classes.

When you are pursuing a bachelor’s degree you will first participate in the schools’ required classes during your freshmen year and then will likely be required to declare a major by the end of your sophomore year. In order to graduate you will be required to study a certain number of hours and complete several other school criteria such as obtaining cultural credits. Check your school as these will vary.

When you graduate you will likely be awarded one of the following two most common degrees in a Bachelor of Science Degree or a Bachelor of Arts Degree. At a community college you will receive an Associates Degree.

You will attend one of the following types of schools when trying to obtain a Bachelors Degree. All vary in their structure, cost and requirements. Therefore it is important to understand their differences when selecting your school.

It often comes down to a personal preference when choosing your school. Various factors such as location, costs, size of the school, its sports programs, facilities, reputation, friends will all play a role in your decision making process.

The first thing to know about private schools is that they are likely to be more expensive than other schools. Costs can often go past the ,000 mark which is just out of reach for many students and parents. The private schools are not controlled by government agencies as are public schools. As a result they receive less financial support in the form of government funding. Private universities are structured differently in the way that they are run by private groups and also supported through private funds.

Public Schools are governed and subsidized by the state they are located in and often have the word “state” in their name. For example, North Carolina State University or Florida State University. These public schools are often more popular with in-state residents as they provide a lot of financial assistance and are a lot cheaper than their private school alternative.

If you are an out-of-state student then you will pay higher fees as your taxes have not contributed to that particular states funding. However, it may still be a cheaper alternative than attending a private school in your state. Many of the state schools have great academic reputations and sporting programs so follow your list when selecting a school.

Religious Affiliated Schools – in the U.S. system of equal rights and your right to choose; you can still decide attend one of these religious affiliated schools and still maintain your right to be of a different religion. Although some schools will require you to attend some of their religious programs for cultural credits. These schools are often privately funded so that they do not have to be governed by the state and can still make their own independent choices about how the school exists.

Liberal Arts Schools strive to provide students with a broad education that aims to develop all aspects of a person and expose them to a wide variety of topics, life experiences and social experiences. They are trying to develop a “well-rounded” student by having them participate is a wide range of classes. Along with the specific classes in your major you are also likely to take classes that can range from history, religion, music, arts and geography to name a few.

Most liberal arts colleges will be smaller private schools where the majority of students (often over 75 %) live on campus. One major benefit is that you will find yourself in a class of less than 40 students which has obvious benefits. The teacher is more likely to know your name and be there to assist you on a more personal level.

Community Colleges award a student an associates degree or technical degree. These institutions are often two years and are sometimes referred to as Junior Colleges. You will hear about many athletes attending a junior college prior to attending a four year school. This is also a good way to prepare yourself and then transfer to for a four year program. Community colleges have increased in popularity due to their ability to work with students busy schedules and needs.

Ivy Leagues Schools are well known for their high academic standards and are very difficult to get into. Only a small percentage of applicants will be accepted into an Ivy League school and you will find that each college and university will set their own admissions criteria so look into each school individually and you will see which ones you have more of a chance of getting into. Go for the schools that put more emphasis on the areas that you are strong in.

Some of the Ivy League schools include: Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, Penn and Dartmouth.

Diversity in College – Many colleges will strive to be schools that value diversity amongst its student population. Colleges aim for a balance between males and females as well as students from a variety of different backgrounds including ethnic, religious, sexual, racial and international identities.

A college campus will be comprised of many diverse groups and most schools strive to achieve a balance when selecting students.

You will find that many of the athletes are from different countries. Most of these athletes are only able to pay for the costs of college because they receive aid in the form of an athletic scholarship.

Whether you are an International athlete or a local athlete in the USA; there are many factors that you will need to take into account before selecting your college. Most often this will be dictated by where you are able to get enough scholarship money to help pay for the high costs of college. Some of the key factors you need to look at include location of the school, the costs, availability of financial aid, weather, size of school, do they have your field of study, quality of facilities, do they have a dedicated tennis coach or just a part-time coach.

You will also want to check out the standard of players currently on the team, budget given to the tennis team, housing facilities, the campus, graduation rates and reputation of both the athletic department and the college.

As an athlete you would love to get a lot of “Free” money from the school in the form of grants and scholarships to help pay for the costs of going to college. However, you can fill the gap by applying for one of the many federal loans or even looking into private loans.

There are many options when it comes to paying for college so don’t let money get in the way of playing a sport in college. This is just one key points to ask the financial aid office at your potential college of choice.

Elementary School Career Education – The Need, Basics, Examples, and Guidelines

Elementary School Career Education – The Need, Basics, Examples, and Guidelines

According Ediger (2000), elementary school career education is important. Ediger stated that “the elementary school years are not too early to begin to achieve a vision of what one desires to do in life contributing to the world of work”. Without career education, students have unrealistic perceptions of careers due to a lack of knowledge and poor decision making. Students have limited knowledge and exposure to careers. (2,3) When students look at the different industries e.g. sports, media and entertainment, most students underestimate the skills and time required to have successful careers. (3)

The Basics for Elementary School Career Education Programs

In career awareness programs, students do not make premature career choices. Elementary school career education is not career exploration or career preparation. Elementary students remain open to new career ideas and possibilities. (7,8,13,15) Elementary students build awareness of self, personal interactions, school, and the workforce. (2,15) Elementary school counselors and teachers build self-awareness, family awareness, school awareness, community awareness, career/ work awareness, attitude development, skill development, decision making strategies, and self-worth. (2,4,11)

Career awareness programs use age appropriate materials that match the developmental levels of the students. Age appropriate activities expose students to a variety of different jobs, career information sources, and the reasons why people work. Programs also incorporate academic career pathways into classroom activities. According to CareerTec (2000), the preliminary career education skills serve as foundations for future skills. As the students progress, previous skills are reinforced, developed, and expanded. (2,4,11)

As elementary students get older, the students modify career visions and goals. After completing an elementary school career awareness program, students have higher grades, higher academic achievement, improved school involvement, as well as an increase in career awareness exploration, personal, and interpersonal skills. (1,15) In addition, the students complete more complex courses and have a higher graduation rate from high school. (9)

In summary, in career programs, students:

Learn and apply the academic material

Know and value self

Build self-esteem and confidence

Identify interests and build relationships between the school environment and the work force

Build academic, communication, problem solving, and social skills

Increase awareness of the need for future jobs skills

See the connections between learning in school, academic skills, job related skills, and careers

See career possibilities

See themselves as a future contributor to the job force

Receive empowerment

Build self-determination (2,7,9)

Examples of Elementary School Career Education Resources

Career awareness programs widely use tools are the Individual Career Plan (ICP) and the Individual Career Develop Portfolio. According to the Ohio State Department of Education (2000), Individual Career Plans (ICP) are essential for the development of self-awareness, employability skills, decision making and goal setting, community involvement, economics, and the reduction of bias. Students use the Individual Career Plans as they identify and explore initial career goals and educational plans. Elementary students use Individual Career Plan (ICP) to develop skills and to prepare to make future educational and career decisions. (12)

Another important tool is the Individual Career Develop Portfolio. Individual Career Develop Portfolios are collections of the career awareness activities and experiences that have occurred during the school year. (12) Other elementary school career awareness activities include:

Artistic displays

Career Days

Career Fairs

Career research

Career videos

Collages, murals

Community speakers

Educational games

Family group discussions

Field trips

Information interviewing

Job shadowing

Library book report

Mentors

Poetry

Phonics

Pictured dictionary

Puppets

Role playing

Scrapbook

Story reading

Student group discussions

Word search and comprehension activities (8,9,11,12,16)

Elementary school programs help students build connections between academics and real life situations. (9) Teachers and counselors use career education principles to stress the importance of language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. Language arts have many uses in the workplace: Reading, writing, and listening skills. The uses for Mathematics include: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills to solve problems. In Social Studies, students gain understanding about other countries, languages, cultures, and the aspects of living in a global marketplace. Students learn the importance of Science having skills to solve problems as well as understanding how science is involved in different industries, such as food, media, agricultural, and automotive industries. (8)

Guidelines for Elementary Education Career Resources – National Career Development Guidelines

The NCDG Guidelines is a career knowledge, skills, and decision-making framework. The NCDG framework has three domains, goals, and indicators. Teachers and counselors use the domains, goals, and indicators as guidelines to design and create career resources. The three domains are: Personal Social Development (PS), Educational Achievement and Lifelong Learning (ED), and Career Management (CM). Each domain represents a developmental area in a career education program. Under each domain are goals or competencies. Under each goal, indicators highlight the knowledge and skills needed to achieve the goal. The National Career Development Guidelines (NCDG) is the foundation for career education products, research development, tests and tools. (14)

Summary

Elementary school career education programs build self-awareness, family awareness, school awareness, community awareness, career/ work awareness, attitude development, skill development, decision making strategies, and self-worth. Elementary school career awareness programs use age appropriate materials that match the developmental levels of the students. As a results of career education, schools reported that students had higher grades and academic achievement, improvement in school involvement and performance, as well as an increase in career awareness exploration, personal, and interpersonal skills. Career awareness activities include Individual Career Plan (ICP), Individual Career Develop Portfolio (ICDP), Career Days, Career Fairs, Field trips, information interviewing, and library book report.

Catholic School: an Application of Catholic Education for Catholic School in Thailand

The Purpose of our Education Provision

By admitting that we are Catholic school, it means, we can part of the church. We therefore form part of the saving mission of the Church, especially for education in the faith (The Catholic School, 1977, Article 9). The obligation that we have is to foster in her children a full awareness of their rebirth to a new life (The Catholic School, 1977). Moreover, in the document of Catholic School in the Third Millennium, she affirms “….”The person of each individual human being, in his or her material and spiritual needs, is at the heart of Christ’s teaching: this is why the promotion of the human person is the goal of the Catholic school” (Article 9).

To shed more light to this, we turn to GRAVISSIMUM EDUCATIONIS. In this document,  the Church declares “A Christian education does not merely strive for the maturing of a human person as just now described, but has as its principal purpose this goal: that the baptized, while they are gradually introduced the knowledge of the mystery of salvation, become ever more aware of the gift of Faith they have received, and that they learn in addition how to worship God the Father in spirit and truth (cf. John 4:23) especially in liturgical action, and be conformed in their personal lives according to the new man created in justice and holiness of truth (Eph. 4:22-24); also that they develop into perfect manhood, to the mature measure of the fullness of Christ (cf. Eph. 4:13) and strive for the growth of the Mystical Body; moreover, that aware of their calling, they learn not only how to bear witness to the hope that is in them (cf. Peter 3:15) but also how to help in the Christian formation of the world that takes place when natural powers viewed in the full consideration of man redeemed by Christ contribute to the good of the whole society.(9) Wherefore this sacred synod recalls to pastors of souls their most serious obligation to see to it that all the faithful, but especially the youth who are the hope of the Church, enjoy this Christian education.(10)” (Article 2)

As clearly stated above, our school mission is not only to provide education to form the whole person but also to orient our students to the knowledge of salvation on which the fullness of human being is based upon. It is in this principal purpose that our obligation should be based, in other words, if our mission as such is ever carried out, this is the sole aim we need to pursue and find our fulfillment.

Teachers as Coordinators in Faith

This very purpose of our education provision should be understood first by any Catholic educators in Thailand so that it can be expressed in our Catholic school. This broad philosophical stance requires Catholic Educators to combine sound knowledge and skills with an overall personal development rooted in Christian values. Such an education involves a high level of inter-personal transaction between staff and pupils. Pope John Paul II has spelt out key implications of this for staff who work in Catholic schools:

“The Church looks upon you as co-workers with an important measure of shared responsibility… To you it is given to create the future and give it direction by offering to your students a set of values with which to assess their newly discovered knowledge… (the changing times) demand that educators be open to new cultural influences and interpret them for young pupils in the light of Christian faith. You are called to bring professional competence and a high standard of excellence to your teaching… But your responsibilities make demands on you that go far beyond the need for professional skills and competence… Through you, as through a clear window on a sunny day, students must come to see and know the richness and joy of life lived in accordance with Christ’s teaching, in response to his challenging demands. To teach means not only to impart what we know, but also to reveal who we are by living what we believe. It is this latter lesson which tends to last the longest.”(Address to Catholic Educators, September 12, 1984)

Pope John Paul II clarified this further when he spoke on Catholic Education in Melbourne:

“I welcome you into that chosen group called by the Church to educating young Catholics in the faith. In a very special way, you share in the Church’s mission of proclaiming the good news of salvation. Not all of you may be teaching catechetics, but if you are on the staff of a Catholic school, it is expected, and it is of the utmost importance, that you should support the whole of the church’s teaching and bear witness to it in your daily lives… Certainly your work demands professionalism, but it also demands something more. Your professionalism as teachers involves tasks that are linked to your Baptism and to your own commitment in faith… No matter what subject you teach, it is part of your responsibilities to lead your pupils more fully into the mystery of Christ and the living tradition of the Church… The parish primary school, where younger children receive their early lessons in the faith, remains a cornerstone …

St Columba’s College Principles of Catholic Education of the pastoral care of Australian Catholic People. Here the Community of Faith hands on the timely message of Jesus Christ to its youngest members… More difficult challenges face the Catholic secondary school. Here students must be helped to achieve that integration of faith and authentic culture which is necessary for believers in today’s world. But they must also be helped to recognise and reject false cultural values which are contrary to the Gospel.”(Address on Catholic Education, November 26, 1986)

The statements of the late Pope mentioned above enhance highly the mission of our education dedicated to the young. They need to be oriented to the new formation in which faith and authentic culture meet appropriately. This can be done only when the Catholic Educators accept the philosophy of Catholic education as their guiding principles for their functioning. Whilst it is accountable to the society for the provision of quality education to young citizens, it is also accountable to the Church community for providing this within the context of the Gospel and its value as expressed in Catholic doctrine. Catholic educators therefore will not attach too much importance to the test scores of their students only but also to facilitate Gospel values in their schools’ context through their teachers.

Faith Education integrated with Culture

To carry out our educative mission appropriately, the Church understands truly well the importance of culture. She suggests us to apply wisely the application of culture to cultivate Gospel values in our young learners. She asserts the Catholic school has as its aim the critical communication of human culture and the total formation of the individual, it works towards this goal guided by its Christian vision of reality “through which our cultural heritage acquires its special place in the total vocational life of man” (Article 36). She also proposes to us to apply teaching as a significant tool to integrate faith with culture. She asserts “In helping pupils to achieve through the medium of its teaching an integration of faith and culture, the Catholic school sets out with a deep awareness of the value of knowledge as such (The Catholic School, Article 38).

In the same document, she further points out to us the importance of subjects. They should be considered as a means to accommodate students into the development of their personality. She states “Individual subjects must be taught according to their own particular methods. It would be wrong to consider subjects as mere adjuncts to faith or as a useful means of teaching apologetics. They enable the pupil to assimilate skills, knowledge, intellectual methods and moral and social attitudes, all of which help to develop his personality and lead him to take his place as an active member of the community of man (Articles 39). Further still, She wishes to see our school to systematically and critically transmit culture in connection with living faith. She posits “The specific mission of the school, then, is a critical, systematic transmission of culture in the light of faith and the bringing forth of the power of Christian virtue by the integration of culture with faith and of faith with living (Article 49).

Finally the church provides us a sharp and clear conclusion on our school mission should be run. She concludes “ The various school subjects do not present only knowledge to be attained, but also values to be acquired and truths to be discovered. All of which demands an atmosphere characterized by the search for truth, in which competent, convinced and coherent educators, teachers of learning and of life, may be a reflection, albeit imperfect but still vivid, of the one Teacher. In this perspective, in the Christian educational project all subjects collaborate, each with its own specific content, to the formation of mature personalities” (The catholic School on the Third Millennium, Article 14).

To conclude the Catholic school does not exist for itself. It owns its existence on the mission of the church that is to evangelize. The existence of catholic is therefore is to inform and educate the whole student, who is an integrated human person, in the teaching, “the mind” of the Catholic Church, thus preparing men and women with a profoundly Catholic Vision of life. Catholic school therefore finds its true justification in the mission of the Church. This justification finds its meaning on an educational philosophy in which faith, culture and life are brought into harmony. Through it, the Catholic school evangelizes, educates, and contributes to the formation of a healthy and morally sound life-style among its students. Only by doing this will the Catholic school fulfill its vital mission and has the right to pursue its existence.
